Clinic and Tele-Dermatologists Seek to Improve Access and Reimbursement

La Clinica de la Raza, a Bay Area clinic network, and dermatologists at UC-San Francisco have been crafting a novel tele-dermatology program to serve safety net patients.  UCSF uses store & forward technologies to make initial assessments on cases, referring routine cases back to primary care providers with treatment plans, while taking on complex cases in person, via monthly specialty clinics.

The program increases access to specialty care, provides education to primary care providers, and enhances case management.  La Clinica also hopes to close in on that most elusive goal of telehealth—breaking even financially.
